On Monday, students will complete the timed multiple choice portion of the 1st grade practice AP exam, followed by a review of sample student essays over Othello in order to model Thursday's in-class essay over Macbeth (requirements last week's blog). Tuesday, students will re-evaluate missed responses on the previous day's test. Due to school testing on Wednesday, there will be no class, and students are expected to continue to prep for the essay on Thursday. Hopefully, we will be able to being the short story unit on Friday. Also, students should be reading their selected novel for the research paper and beginning to narrow down their essay topics (AP prompts), as the first day for working on papers at school is scheduled for Oct. 24th. I highly encourage students to set up a conference time with me to discuss/review the progress of their papers. Remember, this assignment is worth 10% of the overall grade, and it is the only grade that will receive extra credit if turned in the day before the due date!
Oct. 15-19
Beginning on Monday, the weekly AP exam practices will be graded (after re-evals), with a running average. This week's focus will be on the reading/discussion of a selection of short stories. Students will be given printed copies of each text except "A Good Man is Hard to Find," by Flannery O'connor, which they will need to print and bring to class. The AP lit. terms # 2 quiz is on Thursday, and students should have their novels completed by next Wednesday (Oct. 24th), as we will begin rough drafts on that date, so it is suggested that students have a working outline. Again, it is highly suggested that students see me for writing conferences as they work on their papers!
